Village will have too much quality for Rangers
PHC v St George’sOne of many top flight clashes on the cards for the round of 16 of the FA Cup, St George’s will do well to keep Premier Division league leaders PHC at bay at Southampton Oval.Brian Anderson’s side will be looking to get back on winning ways, having dropped two points against lowly St David’s last weekend. The performances of each team’s goalkeeper could also be a deciding factor; in goal for Zebras is youngster Troy Hall, while St George’s are relying on Allan Douglas Jr, who is more used to scoring goals than preventing them.A key for both sides will be the production of their goalkeepers, with one being given his chance at the club and the other a make shift ‘keeper that is a striker. Both teams have plenty of firepower, so I expect this fixture to produce plenty of goals.Prediction: PHC 3-1Somerset Trojans v Robin HoodThe Premier Division new boys will be battling it out for the right to advance to the quarterfinals at Somerset Cricket Club. Both sides have been playing enterprising football and will look to make a sustained run in the competition.Hood possess the second best defence in the league, while Trojans have shored things up at the back in recent times, which has been a major reason behind their good results against the top flight big boys.Goals will be at a premium, however, and the team that strikes first could be the eventual winners.Prediction: Trojans 1-0Southampton Rangers v North VillageA match that is sure to have both sets of fans on their seat for the entire match at Southampton Oval.Southampton Rangers have the potential to beat North Village and they will set out to put a halt to the Red Army machine that is firing on all cylinders at the moment.Minus star striker Keishen Bean, who has returned to Canada to continue his studies, Village still possess a potent attack that can destroy any team on the Island. For me, Village will have too much quality for Keith Jennings’ side and should waltz their way to a convincing win.Prediction: Village 3-1Boulevard v Devonshire CougarsDefending champions Cougars should have too much trouble brushing aside a Boulevard that has been truly awful this season.Rock-bottom of the table and starring relegation in the face, Blazers have shipped a staggering 12 goals in their last two matches, showing no real signs of improvement.Considering Cougars are all but out of the title race, with the Big Cats falling nine points behind leaders Hornets, this is a must-win game for Dennis Brown’s team. And that might offer a glimmer of hope to Blazers, who, should they be able to frustrate Cougars, could at least make life difficult for the visitors at BAA Field.Prediction: Cougars 3-1Dandy Town v ProspectA straight forward game for Dandy Town who have set the pace in the title raceHornets can afford to blood a few youngsters and allow some of their senior players the luxury of resting for bigger games on the horizon. The First Division side will look to take advantage of any complacency by Town, though, and do have a few match winners in their ranks that could help pull off a potential upset at St John’s Field. It may seem far fetched, the thought of an upset, but Prospect have made deep runs into the latter stages of the competition and will certainly be up for this one.Prediction: Town 3-0Devonshire Colts v St David’sDevonshire Colts can go a long way to saving their season with a win over St David’s at Police Field. In the middle of the pack in the First Division, the hosts will fancy their chances against the relegation threatened St David’s.The Islanders will certainly be the favourites, however, and should make the most of this relatively easy fixture compared to the others on tap.Prediction: St David’s 2-0Wolves v Somerset EaglesWolves will look to get this one over fairly quickly and not let their opponents to gain a foothold in this match. The First Division leaders have been in formidable form this season and should be too big a mountain to climb for Marlon Rojas’ Eagles.Any chance of an upset lies on the feet of Darin Dowling, who will need to carry the burden of scoring the goals for the visitors tonight.Prediction: Wolves 3-1Flanagan’s v Young Men’s Social ClubPromotion hopefuls Flanagan’s can continue their strong form with a win over Young Men’s Social Club at BAA Field tomorrow night.Experience will play a part in this match, and the edge in this department should go to Social Club, although their form has been up and down of late.Knowing a date against a big club is sure to be on the cards, the team that comes out motivated from the outset will win the game.Prediction: Flanagan’s 3-2
