BBFS set for College Festival

Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School (BBFS) has partnered with HSBC Bermuda to hold the second annual HSBC-BBFS College Festival at the National Sports Centre.Coaches from England, Holland, Canada and the United States will be training youth players, aged 11 to 21, from Monday to Friday.The festival will run from Monday to Friday.Nearly 100 pre-selected student athletes from Bermuda’s middle and senior schools will be given first hand information on what is required to become a college student athlete and will learn more about topics ranging from preparing for college admissions, SAT exam requirements and applying for athletic scholarships.“HSBC’s generous support allows middle and senior school players, nominated by their teachers and principals, to attend the College Festival at no charge,” said Cal Blankendal, BBFS executive director.“The students are nominated for their good academic and behavioural standing at their respective school and are recognised as outstanding football players. In addition to their football training, participants will volunteer for the Cooper’s Island Restoration Project to promote teamwork and positive community activities.”Participating international coaches and their universities/professional football clubs include Brett Mosen (McMaster University and Hamilton FC-USL-PDL Head Coach), Barry McLane (Wilfred Laurier University/ MLS Player Agent), Phil Wedden (Syracuse University), Jonathan Vos (Holland College), Raymond Wells (Lindsay Wilson College), Jeff Bookman (International youth director, Chelsea Football Club and Inside Soccer), Leonardo Mouwen (skills coach, Manchester City FC and Inside Soccer)
