Trojans vow to make Hornets work for title

Somerset Trojans coach Mike Corday is adamant his team will be ready to push league leaders Dandy Town all the way in their Digicel Premier Division match tonight at Somerset Cricket Club.Champions-elect Town are eight points ahead of second place PHC and need just a point to be crowned champions with two matches of the season still remaining.Although the odds are firmly stacked in Hornets’ favour, Corday believes his team will be more than up to the task of upsetting the runaway leaders.“We go on the field with the intentions of winning every game we play,” said Corday. “Even though we have a very good record at home this season, we are well aware of how talented and inform Town are at the moment and it won’t be an easy task by any means to beat them.“But if our players turn up with the right frame of mind and the appropriate attitude towards the match there’s no reason why we can’t win any game.“Having said that, someone may delay Dandy Town’s celebration but I don’t think they’ll stop them from taking the league title eventually.”Town thrashed Trojans 5-1 at St John’s Field earlier in the season, but were defeated by the West Enders in the Friendship Trophy in the previous meeting between the two teams.Reflecting on a successful season for Trojans, having reached the final of the Friendship and secured their top-flight safety, Corday has challenged his players to end the season on a high.“Qualifying for the Dudley Eve would be an accomplishment in terms of the goals we set but we still need to aim higher,” he said.“We are not a club who will ever be satisfied with finishing mid-table or just near the top and I believe we will go from strength to strength.”In Sunday’s Premier Division action, Robin Hood face St George’s at BAA, North Village face Southampton Rangers at Bernard Park, PHC tackle Boulevard at Southampton Oval, while St David’s play Devonshire Cougars at Lords.Tonight’s kick off is 8pm.
