Former Indoor pro David Bascome launched his annual HSBC Soccer Clinic on Monday as a host of youth footballers improved their skills at BAA Field.Players between the ages of four and 16 are taking part in four different programmes aimed at honing their soccer skills, with Bascome and overseas and local coaches helping to educate the youngsters.“Thank you to the parents, my young people, coaches and HSBC for their support,” said Bascome. “We have seen many young people come through the clinic and it is our hope that they have carried with them our message of discipline, respect and responsibility, not just for the game but for life as well.”HSBC have supported the Pro Soccer Clinic from its inception with as few as 60 primary age schoolchildren in 1991 to nearly 300 youngsters this summer.Khari Sharrieff, HSBC Product Manager said: “HSBC is a proud sponsor of the Pro Soccer Clinic and we hope that participants take full advantage of this learning opportunity. This clinic is very important because it allows our young people to develop not only soccer skills but provides them with the opportunity to become team players and teaches them the importance of having a positive attitude.”The clinic consists of four main programmes; Bridge to Success, Kiddy Kickers, Basic Group and the School of Excellence.Bridge to Success is a programme open to male and female players aged nine to16 aimed at giving players the tools to become the model player. In addition to providing players with the opportunity to build on their skills, coaches will promote learning, positive discipline and becoming team players on and off the field. The younger players have the opportunity to take part in Kiddy Kickers, a starter clinic that introduces young players aged four and five years old to the ‘FUN-damentals’ of soccer.Kiddy Kickers promotes parental involvement and a parent or guardian must accompany each player for the entire daily one-hour training session.Basic Group provides male and female players between the ages of six to ten years with the opportunity to build on their skills and learn the importance of positive discipline from qualified coaches and experienced players. The School of Excellence co-ed programme will again be offered to the top ten participants from the Bridge to Success week one programme. The school runs from July 9 to 13 and involves classroom, instruction focused on academics, soccer training and work experience.
