Coach Brown hails Disney tournament huge success

Bermuda Brazilian Football School (BBFS) head coach Dennis Brown hailed the recently completed Disney Cup tournament as a huge success after having one of the four teams to travel reach a final. For the first time in its history, the BBFS send two boys and two girls teams to Orlando, Florida to compete against international competition and performed well above expectations.“the overall performances of the teams, in my eyes, was a resounding success for all teams involved,” said Brown. “The Disney Tournament is international where you have teams competing from all over the world.“Although I knew the abilities of our players, I must add that I was pleasantly surprised that all of our teams got to compete in the semi-finals in the tournament, and this showed us that age group wise we are ahead of some, on par with some and a whisker behind the others.“In this tournament our players grew up really fast whereby the foreign teams, especially the South Americans, are very physical and good technically and eventually our players responded by matching their opponents in both departments.“Both girls teams did very well but the U-12 team did exceptional by making it to the finals where they unfortunately lost to the team from Puerto Rico.“The older girls found out that fitness is a huge component of this game and they will take that back and learn from it.”The U-12 girls finished runners-up after taking the lead against Fraigcomar of Puerto Rico through Teyah Lindo but conceded just before half-time, and giving up the winner five minutes left. The game marked the first time a BBFS team had reached a cup final in both domestic and international competition in the organisation’s five-year history.BBFS placed third in the U-9 boys, U-12 Boys and U-14 girls division, with each team receiving their medals, third place trophies and were called out individually onto the red carpet to collect their medals.Brown also recognised individuals for their standout performances including Zahra Gibbons, Kennesha Nanette, Dazhja Greaves, Diego Richardson, Jarryd Richardson, and Jada Samuels.“There were a few standout players that did catch my eye in the tournament, including the whole U-12 girls team who impressed me because for some this was their first venture overseas for competition and they all did really well.Jarry Richardson, Kashe Hall and Daniel Cook in the U-nine boys also did well along with Mateo Isaac, Ashon Hart and Brandon Jones.“I was very, very impressed with what Brandon Jones done at this tournament playing in the center back role, he can go very far if put in the correct environment.“We are planning to travel to Brazil next summer where we will expose our children to the culture of Brazilian football and life. “More than 50 BBFS players from four teams took part in the six-day tournament.
