Taking on the part-time job, he acknowledged he will be heading into the unknown as he takes charge of the academy.“I’m excited about the opportunity to work at the national level, it’s an honour and a privilege to work alongside with the national programmes,” said Todd yesterday.“It’s a challenge, we have our challenges with funding being the biggest one but I’m eager to move on and get on with the job.“Coming from outside the academy set-up there will be a learning curve in terms of learning how the system is set up and the style that is being used and then start making changes.“Also, expanding the curriculum a bit more and clearly to outline things that each age group should focus on.“The hardest challenge will be getting meaningful game experience that will show exactly how far the training is really taking the players.”Todd was the successful candidate in the BFA’s search for a new director for the youth programme, although it is unclear who opposed him for the top position.Included in his job description is the management and direction of the national programme, focusing of the day to day running of the academy that includes staff, scheduling of training sessions and the programming for the year.Putting forth recommendations to the senior team as to who is ready to make the transition to take the step to the next level is also on his to-do list. While his role is primarily focusing on the management and direction of the national academy programme, Todd is keen to get started on his duties and meet with the current staff and coaches to get a feel for the academy.“It is a part-time basis but I want to implement a few new ideas, although I won’t say what they are right now, but I want to meet with the existing staff and coaches and to share thoughts with everyone.”
