Wells: I’m dedicating season to Tumaini

Touching tribute: Nahki Wells' boots with the name of late Bermuda teammate Tumaini Steede's name and jersey number embroidered on them. Wells has dedicated the 2012-13 English League Two season and any future success to Steede's memory.

Bradford City striker Nahki Wells has dedicated the 2012-13 Npower League Two season to the memory of late Bermuda team-mate Tumaini Steede.Steede, who was a talented midfielder for Devonshire Cougars, succumbed to serious injuries he sustained in a bike accident last month. In a fitting tribute to the late footballer, Wells will play this season in a pair of Nike Vapor boots with Steede’s name and jersey number embroidered on them.“I got some boots made which have his name and squad number (10) which he wore down the Rec (Devonshire Recreation Club),” Wells told The Royal Gazette. “We both actually wear the same boots (Vapors) and I thought he would be proud watching over to see the boots I created. I’m dedicating my season and future success to my boy.”Wells, who played in City’s 1-0 win against Fleetwood Town at Coral Windows Stadium earlier this week, played alongside the late Steede at the national Under-15, Under -18 and Under -23 levels.“I met Tumaini playing football and we have been tight ever since,” the Bantams striker said. “Tumaini and I have played together with the national team since we were 12 but we were always on opposing teams domestically.”The late footballer is the son of former Cougars star Cyril (Dago) Steede and cousin of ex-Bermuda skipper Kwame Steede. In 2009 Steede had a brief spell at Pennsylvania-based Reading Rage and was named as Bermuda Football Association’s Young Player of the Year for the 2010-11 season.
