In-form Wells strikes for Bradford

Bermuda striker Nahki Wells struck his second goal of the season in Bradford City’s 5-1 thrashing of Wimbledon at Valley Parade in the English League Two on Saturday.Wells opened the scoring in the third minute with a shot from inside the area into the bottom corner of the goal. The 22-year-old, who scored a penalty in his team’s 3-1 defeat against Gillingham last weekend, also set up City’s fifth goal with a cross which his strike partner James Hansen headed home.Bradford boss Phil Parkinson praised Wells for helping expose Wimbledon’s defensive frailties.“We understood what was required. Wimbledon had suffered a heavy defeat and we knew they would come here committed, but also if a team has conceded goals like they did at Burton we knew there would be vulnerability in the side.“We needed to exploit that, which we did,” he said.“Some of our attacking play was of the highest order and when you have players like Kyel Reid, Nahki Wells and James Hanson in your side there is always a chance of creating opportunities.“It was slightly flat in the second half after we led 5-1 at half-time and with the injury to the Wimbledon player, but we still had chances to score.“Football is all about putting the ball in the net and we have players to do that.”n Bermuda goalkeeper Freddy Hall played an important role in helping Toronto FC to a well-earned point away at Houston Dynamo in the MLS on Saturday.Terry Dunfield scored a header in the 85th minute to give Toronto, who are without a win in six games, a 1-1 draw against the Dynamo. Will Bruin put the Dynamo ahead in the 21st minute, chipping a shot from inside the box over the head of Hall, who was making his second appearance for the club.“I felt much more comfortable, especially with the backline,” Hall said. “I thought we did a good job here and were very organised and limited to them a few chances and did good.“Whenever you concede a goal you are heartbroken, but we bounced right back and moved the ball well today. It was a good performance overall.”Toronto coach Paul Mariner said he was proud of his team’s display against an in-form Houston side.“I am very proud of the players,” he said. “I thought we played very well tonight for 90 minutes.“We knew we were going to have play well against a very good Houston side.“Yeah, we didn’t get the win, but to come here twice now and get points … There is no reason we can’t put a run together now.”Toronto take on Santos Laguna in the Concacaf Champions League at BMO Stadium tomorrow.
