Island football pros make the video ‘big-time’
Professional footballers used to believe they had ‘made it’ when they had appeared on the front cover of their club’s match day programme or cut the ribbon at the new local supermarket.Nowadays the modern player knows the real benchmark of success is having their physical features and skill sets faithfully recreated by makers of the FIFA video game franchise.Barcelona star Lionel Messi makes an obvious choice as cover boy of FIFA 13 the latest edition of the highly-acclaimed series although the game also includes Bermuda’s very own Nahki Wells, Reggie Lambe and goalkeeper Freddy Hall.Lambe, an avid player of the video game behemoth, has a relatively high rating of 67 out of 100 while his Toronto FC team-mate Hall is marked slightly lower at 62.Somewhat surprisingly considering his goalscoring exploits with Bradford City last season, Wells is lowest ranked of the Bermuda trio with a rating of 61.Although the hugely popular game was only released last week it seems Lambe is already getting to grips with his computer-generated persona.“First thing I’m doing when we get to Canada is picking up that (FIFA) 13,” he said in a recent Twitter post.FIFA 13, also known as FIFA Soccer 13 in North America, is the twentieth edition of Electronic Arts’ video game series. It is developed by EA Canada studios and has been published, worldwide, by Electronic Arts, under the EA Sports label.
