Dev.Cougars 4 Somerset 1Devonshire Cougars took over top spot in the Premier Division on goal difference tonight as striker Chae Brangman netted twice in the comfortable win over Somerset Trojans at Devonshire Rec.Cougars joined Flanagan’s on ten points but with a superior goal difference after Brangman and Domico Coddington scored well-taken goals inside the first half hour to put the home side in front. Brangman broke the deadlock in the tenth minute when the Trojans defence allowed him time and space to volley a low shot into the far bottom corner. Coddington’s effort 13 minutes later found the same corner when he met a a cross from the right, took one touch and then drilled a well-placed shot into the bottom corner.Cougars were creating all the chances and after Kor-Von Tucker put a shot wide when with just the keeper to beat, Brangman pounced again in the final minute of the half to all but seal Cougars’ third win of the season. He robbed Desmond Burgess outside the box and then turned and raced into the box before unleashing a shot that Andrew Jjombwe touched but could not keep out.Despite facing a big defeat, Somerset did show more enterprise early in the second half when Dion Stovell had a shot blocked on the line inside the first minute. Somerset’s troubles got worst in the 58th minute when defender Burgess limped off with a hamstring injury, before Stovell went close again a couple of minutes later when he lobbed the ball over the keeper only to see Darren Williams clear it off the line.Soon Cougars were penetrating again as Brangman was denied by a near post save from Jjombwe before Kor-Von Tucker drilled home a low shot in the 70th minute to make it 4-0.
