League footballers in six-a-side action

Sixteen local companies will be battling for bragging rights on the football field when they converge at Saltus Field this morning for the first of two full days of six-a-side action in the Bermuda Corporate Games.Bermuda Football Association are organising the competition and the schedule will see four groups of four to determine the teams that will advance to tomorrow’s elimination rounds.Battling against each other will be first cousins Nigel Burgess of Hamilton Parish and Somerset Trojans’ Tyrell Burgess who will be representing Belco and Fire Service respectively. Other Premier Division players taking part include former Bermuda international goalkeeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams who will represent ACE along with twins Martel and Marquez Laws while Kevin Ronaldson and Dermot O’Sullivan, who play for Flanagan’s Onions in the league, will be turning out for Argus Insurance.“It’s fun and kind of comes in at a time when there’s no pressure of playing for North Village,” said Adams. “It’s a chance to get out and have some fun and play with your colleagues. The Games are to create a good community in terms of corporate and internal team building.”Adams has an Australian and an American on his team as well as Bermudians, including tennis player David Jenkins, and the goalkeeper expects there to be plenty of banter going around.Action begins at 9am today and 10am tomorrow.Teams: Catlin All-stars, Aon, AWAC, Bermuda Police, Chartis Insurance, Argus Insurance, Deloitte & Touche, Digicel, Bermuda Fire Service, Renaissance Re, Butterfield & Vallis, BF&M, Nephila Capital, ACE Group, Belco, KPMG, Bermuda Monetary Authority.
