Bradford ace Wells bags a brace
Free scoring Nahki Wells is continuing to catch the eye of top football coaches following another sensational display for League Two Bradford City on Saturday.Wells found the net twice in the first half to lead City to a 2-0 victory over struggling Aldershot at the EBB Stadium. The Bermuda international took his tally to 10 league goals this season, extending the Bantams’ unbeaten run to three games. Aldershot remained at the foot of the table.Wells broke the deadlock after latching on to an under hit back-pass from Sonny Bradley before tucking home a left-footed shot from 12 yards after 28 minutes. After 35 minutes Aldershot threatened when a corner broke to Danny Hylton whose shot was blocked on the line, with Scott Donnelly missing the chance to turn in the rebound. Then a minute later Wells dinked an effort wide but doubled his tally on 39 minutes, tapping home after Young had parried Hanson’s effort straight into his path.Wells was denied what would have been his second hat-trick of the season when his acrobatic bicycle kick hit a post late on.Meanwhile, Bermuda hotshot Jonte Smith continued his goalscoring exploits with Ryman League side Metropolitan Police in the UK on Saturday. The striker netted a brace in the Blues’ emphatic 4-0 home drubbing of Hastings United to take his season tally to 18 goals in only 12 appearances.Smith opened the scoring for the hosts who dominated proceedings in the eighth minute after volleying home Craig Brown’s pass from eight yards.Met Police then increased their lead with two goals in a five-minute span from frontman Alan Tait and a Sean Ray own goal to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.Smith completed the scoring in the 50th minute when he converted from the penalty spot after Steve Sutherland was felled in the box.Commenting on his team’s convincing win, Smith told The Royal Gazette: “It was a real good performance from all of the players and was probably our best performance all season.“I was just glad to get on the end of two chances. I’ve been in a good run of form and just trying to make it count for as long as I can.”Smith, 18, is currently on loan to Met Police from League One side Crawley Town. The Blues will face high-flying Whitehawk on the road in their next league encounter.
