Somerset Trojans will look to build on their recent Dudley Eve success when they travel to Southampton Oval tomorrow to face Premier Division leaders PHC Zebras.Trojans edged North Village earlier this week to claim a fourth Dudley Eve title but will now shift their focus to improving on their lowly eighth-place position in the top flight. While the West Enders were impressive in the Dudley Eve they have so far failed to live up to pre-season expectations in league play. They only have two wins to their credit from five matches and have leaked in more goals than they have scored hardly the form of a team many predicted to be in contention for league honours this season. In contrast, Zebras are off to a fine start in the top flight this campaign which they currently lead on goal difference over nearest rivals Devonshire Cougars, Southampton Rangers and league newcomers Flanagan’s Onions.Despite losing the services of key players Antwan Russell and Aquino Grant to the transfer market and coach Wendell Furbert earlier in the season, PHC have still managed to hold their own in the league where they have only lost once so far.A fierce rivalry has developed over the years between Zebras and Trojans and tomorrow’s contest at the Oval should prove to be no exception when the two highly decorated clubs rest their reputations on the line.Zebras are expected to be bolstered by the return of Elmira College freshman and Bermuda Under-20 midfielder Tre Ming who was recently named Empire 8 Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year.Trojans will again rely heavily on the likes of new signing Tyrell Burgess and Dion Stovell who both scored in the West Ender’s 2-1 Dudley Eve final win against Rams.Elsewhere tomorrow, defending league champs Dandy Town Hornets will look to avenge their loss to Rams in the Dudley Eve semi-finals when the two City rivals clash at Bernard Park.Town are just one point off the lead pace in fifth while Rams are a further three points adrift in seventh spot.At Wellington Oval, visitors Robin Hood will resume their quest for a maiden league win of the season when they come up against fellow cellar dwellers St George’s Colts who have stumbled on hard times since the controversial departure of coach Richard Todd.Tonight will see surprise package Onions host Cougars at Goose Gosling Field (BAA). A draw or win for either team would topple Zebras from the top spot ahead of their clash with Trojans. In weekend First Division action, league leaders Hamilton Parish take on second-placed St David’s Warriors at Wellington Oval, third-placed BAA host Ireland Rangers at Goose Gosling Field, Young Men’s Social Club will do battle with Boulevard at Bernard Park while Somerset Eagles are pitted against Devonshire Colts at White Hill Field
