Lambe vows to improve goal threat

Reggie Lambe: Big season ahead.

Reggie Lambe admits he faces a ‘make or break’ season at Toronto FC and feels he needs to start contributing more goals from midfield.Lambe was arguably one of the few bright points last season for Toronto, who finished bottom of the Eastern Conference, making 34 appearances and scoring six goals in his debut MLS campaign. But with three seasons of pro experience under his belt, Lambe is no longer considered a rookie and believes he must now establish himself as a key figure at the club.“I just want to go back next season and improve,” said the 21-year-old.“Next season I really have to prove that I’m a professional player, a really good player who should be in contention for winning titles.“I have my own things that I really want to work on. I need to be sharper around the box as I don’t think I have enough attempts at goal and sometimes shy away from shooting.”The former Ipswich man expects there to be stiff competition for places next term with head coach Paul Mariner looking to strengthen his squad with a slew of new faces. However, Lambe is confident he can remain a first team regular.“I just want to make sure that if new players come in, even if they are in my position, I keep my starting place.“At the start of last season I was getting used to a new league but I think I adjusted pretty well when I started to get more games.”Lambe is of firm belief that the MLS is continuing to improve and becoming a more competitive league.“I think people underestimate the MLS; I think it’s very much an improving league and tough to play in,” he said.“The most important thing is consistency and to make sure you keep winning.”Having a familiar face in the dressing room in Bermuda team-mate Freddy Hall, who joined the Canadian outfit midway through the season, helped Lambe settle in Toronto where he now feels at home.“With Freddy being there I felt a lot more comfortable as I had someone I could relate to and talk to after games,” Lambe said.“I’m friends with all of the players but with Freddy it’s easier because I have played with him for the national squad.”He added: “The city is pretty good, it’s busy and sometimes I just go to Starbucks, listen to some to music, so I can think about things.”
