Mixed feelings for former PHC man

Kyle Lightbourne: Mixed feelings.

Kyle Lightbourne admits he will have mixed feelings when his Robin Hood side play his “first love” PHC in tomorrow’s Friendship preliminary match.Lightbourne’s footballing roots are deeply entrenched at Zebras where he emerged as a free-scoring striker in the late 1980s before enjoying a successful spell as head coach from 2006 to 2011.His allegiances now lie firmly with Hood who take a break from their Premier Division survival fight tomorrow with Lightbourne believing a good cup run could boost his side’s league form.“Everyone knows PHC are my first love so it will be an interesting game for me,” said Lightbourne, whose side lost 3-1 to Zebras in the league earlier this season.“We’re looking to have a good game against them and a good cup run can definitely help our league chances.“(The Friendship) will give us a chance to give a couple of other players a game as well as helping us keep our fitness levels over the Christmas break.”Since completing the signings of Antwan Russell, Quadir Maynard and Dominique Williams during the transfer window Hood have enjoyed victories over St George’s and Wolves the team’s first wins of the season.Lightbourne has praised the impact of the trio and is expected to blood another new face against Zebras with Bermuda goalkeeper Tahj Bell, who has returned to the Island from the UK.Bell moved to Hood from Somerset Eagles at the start of the season and has been training with professional and semi-professional English clubs during the last few months.“The players who have come in and have helped us a little bit. We’re looking a bit more organised as a team but we need to get more people scoring goals,” Lightbourne said, whose side are ninth in the league table.“Everyone can beat anyone in this league and we know what type of work we need to do in the second half of the season we need to get points on the board.“We have Tahj Bell available now as he’s back from England. We’ve got quite a few of goalkeepers now with Timmy Figureido, who has been playing well for us, and Juan Federico.”Hood were narrowly beaten by North Village at the weekend although Lightbourne believes his side deserved a point out of the game.“I thought Village had good opportunities but so did we although we didn’t take our opportunities. We’re probably a point behind where we wanted to be right now.”Hood take on PHC at Goose Gosling Field at 7pm tomorrow ahead of Village’s Friendship game against Flanagan’s Onions at 9pm.Tonight’s First Division Shield matches see Ireland Rangers play BAA at 7pm, and YMSC take on Somerset Bridge at 9pm.Both matches will be held at Devonshire Rec.
