Hamilton Parish 1Somerset Eagles 0Tiavince Douglas scored the lone goal of the 2013 Shield final to claim the New Year's Day title for Hamilton Parish for a third successive year.Douglas struck in the 40th minute of a match that was largely uneventful for the first 65 minutes."It was a hard fought match, we knew Eagles would play with a lot of pride so we had to apply ourselves in all aspects of the game and that's what we did today," said Parish coach Keishon Smith.Eagles' Matteo Frazzoni had the first real chance of the match in the 18th minute when he was the recipient of a Kanhai Fray back pass but he hit tamely at Parish 'keeper Nigel Burgess from 12 yards.Patrick Richardson nearly put Parish ahead seven minutes later after Shayne Hollis beat the Eagles back line and squared back. His lunge, however, was mistimed and the chance went begging.Eagles player/coach Marlon Rojas also joined the nearly club with his free kick hitting the outside netting of Burgess' goal in the 34th.It would take Douglas to break the deadlock after he slipped around the outside of the Somerset defence before composing himself and slotting past Karl Brown into the net.It wouldn't be until the 73rd minute that action would pick back up with Eagles substitute Shentoine Lambert making a hash of a one on one with Burgess when it seemed harder to miss from 10 yards.Parish substitute Kai Hollis had a penalty claim in the 83rd minute after he was bundled over inside the area but referee Leroy Wilson waived play on.Lambert would have another bite of the cherry in the 90th minute after being put in by Rojas but again didn't make the most of the opportunity presented to him, sailing his shot for a throw-in.With the win, Smith hoped his side could push on in their search for promotion at the third time of asking."I really believe it is our time now, we have been down for a few years and we truly believe that our time is at hand."This result and cup win will certainly boost our promotion push and hopefully the momentum we have gained from the Christmas period rolls over into the league.“Games like this show who has heart and in order for us to make a promotion push we need to have consistency."I think winning the Shield final three times in a row and defending it for the past two years has shown that we are capable of putting together a string of wins."Hamilton Parish: N Burgess, I Coke, M Dill (K Hollis, 70), Tiavince Douglas (N Swan, 81), C Hansey, S Hollis, D Minks, J Outerbridge, P Richardson (D Rogers, 70), N Simons, R Smith Subs not used: J Fox, D Rogers, D Simmons, G Walker, P Burgess, D OuterbridgeYellow cards: D Minks, P RichardsonGoal: T Douglas, 40Somerset Eagles: K Brown, Xhosi Bascome (I Mullings, 62,) Lorenzo Burch, J Davis, K Fray, Matteo Frazzoni, T Fubler, Lakaim Lowe(S Lambert, 72), Chioke Medeiros (Q Robinson, 83), M Rojas, A Telford Subs not used: D Dowling, S Dread, S Lambert, Q Robinson, M Simmons, T SmithYellow card: I MullingsReferee: L WilsonMan of the Match: I CokeWolves 3 Devonshire Cougars 3(Wolves win on penalty kicks)Wolves won the PDL Festive tournament 5-4 on penalties after the clash against Devonshire Cougars finished 3-3 in regulation time in the opening game at the National Sports Centre yesterday.Derrick Bangman gave Wolves the lead in the 25th minute but it was shortlived as Makai Battersbee equalised 10 minutes later.Troy Tucker put Wolves in front for the second time just before the break and Maricko Iris made it a two-goal cushion in the 75th minute.Che Brangman then strolled onto the scene to stroke home two goals in the final four minutes to send the match penalties. With all takers finding their mark in the shoot-out, it was Mark Steede who missed the Big Cats’ final kick to make Wolves the champions.
