Dandy Town 0North Village 1And then there were two.North Village are set to go head-to-head with Devonshire Cougars for the Digicel Premier Division title after a hard fought win over ten man Dandy Town at St John’s Field yesterday.Keishen Bean’s 77th minute strike was enough to grab the points for Village in a match that saw Hornets’ Saki Tuzo sent off for a second yellow card midway through the second half.Cougars remain six points ahead of Village.“We are still in it, Hornets are one of our main rivals every season and games like this at such a crucial stage in the season aren’t usually good ones as no-one wants to lose,” said Rams defender Jason Davis.“The league is still in Cougars’ hands at the moment so we just need to get the points and see what happens with their games.“We are looking to get back in the hunt, but the league is Cougars’ to lose.“Obviously there is a crunch match at home for us against them but until then we just need to put our heads down and focus on the task at hand.”Not one for the football purists, chances were hard to come by at either end with wastefulness in front of goal being the order of the day. Both teams were left to rue bad decisions in key areas of the field, most notably Village striker Clay Darrell who could have won the game on his own with the opportunities missed. There was a penalty appeal just before the break after Village winger Lashun Dill went down in the Town box, but referee Lyndon Raynor waved play on.Keishen Bean saw a shot saved by Town goalkeeper Treadwell Gibbons ten minutes after the restart, but Gibbons could only parry the effort into the path of Khomeini Talbot who skewed his attempt wide.Midway through the second half Gibbons again had to make a save diving dive to his right after substitute Pierre Smith set up for Jemeiko Jennings who hit his effort straight at the keeper.Tuzo was subsequently sent off for his second bookable offence in the 70th minute. The telling blow was to be struck in the 77th minute when a solo run from Bean saw his him weave his way through a handful of Town players and slot home past Gibbons.Town substitute Caldre Burgess tried to claw his side back into the match, but any thoughts of a comeback were put to bed when Randell Bassett saved a Fabian Frankson shot in injury time.“It’s over for us in terms of challenging for the title,” said Hornets skipper Damon Ming. “We are still in the FA Cup and will focus on that but our remaining games will see a few of the youngsters come out and get a chance.“Today was a crunch match for both sides, I really don’t know what to say apart from they played hard and got the result today.“We didn’t have the team out there to win the game today. We have to brush ourselves off and look to end the season on a high and get to the FA Cup final.”Dandy Town: T Gibbons, S Tuzo, S Darrell, L Simmons, J Stowe, K Tucker, F Frankson, D Butterfield (E Tankard, 82), K Lathan (C Burgess, 30), D Ming, T WebbSubstitutes not used: K Wade, T Goater, K Smith, M Clemens Yellow: C BurgessRed card: S TuzoNorth Village: R Bassett, Z Hendrickson (J Samuels, 87), D Tankard, T Watson, J Davis, V Tankard, J Jennings, K Bean, C Darrell, K Talbot (P Smith, 57), L DillSubstitutes not used: K ArrudaGoal: K Bean, 77Yellow cards: T WatsonReferee: L RaynorMan of the Match: J Jennings (Village)Somerset Trojans 2PHC Zebras 2Somerset Trojans and PHC had to share the points on Saturday night at Somerset Cricket Club.Zebras striker Shakir Smith gave the visitors the lead in the third minute, but Trojans’ Tyrell Burgess equalised for seven minutes later.Kevin Lambe re-established PHC’s lead in the 39th minute to give them the advantage at the interval.Malachi Jones grabbed the leveller for the hosts when he scored in the 90th minute.
