Lightbourne brace not enough for Hood
Southampton Rangers 3Robin Hood 2Dennis Russell's first half hat-trick ensured Southampton Rangers passage into the semi-finals of the FA Cup as they beat Robin Hood in a replay at Somerset Cricket Club.Kyle Lightbourne scored a brace in a losing effort for Hood.Lightbourne grabbed the first goal of the game in controversial fashion when referee Anthony Francis adjudged his header from a corner had crossed the line.Russell would level moments later from the spot, and a looping ball from Ezekial Stoneham that was misjudged by Hood goalkeeper Timmy Figureido awarded Russell his second when he was quickest to react to the loose ball. His third would come moments before the break, when a scramble in the area saw Russell again be first on sight to lash home from six yards.Lightbourne would pull Hood back within one with seven minutes, and had a swirling free kick saved by Jason Smith in the Rangers goal in the final stages."We knew it would be a close contest but we had to stick to our game plan and in the end we won and move on," said Rangers coach Marvin Belboda."Although we have nothing to fight for in the league it is easy to rise up for games like this."It is important to remember that each game is different from another, but it is also difficult when you can't get the same team out each week and it is a testament to our depth that we can still go and perform."Somerset Trojans 1Somerset Eagles 0Somerset Trojans defended home turf last night with their win over Somerset Eagles to round off the final teams that will compete in FA Cup semi-finals.Malachi Jones' goal midway through the second half was enough to push the Premier Division side over the finish line in the replay.Jones would be the one to produce the moment of brilliance when he slipped the ball around his marker and placed his effort into the back post with the outside of his boot.Trojans join Southampton Rangers, Devonshire Cougars and defending champions Dandy Town as the final four sides that will compete for the trophy.
