Hot Peppers have destiny in own hands Smith

Hamilton Parish coach Keishon Smith has backed his side to capitalise on their recent good run of form and win promotion to the top-flight.The Hot Peppers are just two points behind league leaders St David’s, who have a bye this weekend, and would go top if they defeat Ireland Rangers at Wellington Oval on Sunday.Promotion contenders BAA Wanderers are third on the same points as Parish who have a game in-hand, with Smith firmly believing his side are in the driving seat as the business end of the season approaches.“We have backed ourselves from the beginning to claw our way into the promotion race even when we were ten points back and seemingly out of the hunt,” said Smith.“How it stands we have the inside lane because we have three games left while both St David’s and BAA have byes in the coming weeks and we can make ourselves safe in the bigger picture of promotion.”Parish’s six-game unbeaten streak was halted when they lost 3-2 at home to BAA last month, which saw them fall out of the top two promotion spots. But they bounced back with a 3-2 win over St David’s and a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Prospect last weekend to leave them sitting pretty with three games of the league campaign remaining.“The win over St David’s was big in the fact that it capped off a huge period in our season that we deemed important to our promotion hopes,” Smith added.“We went on a good run to get back in the hunt, and although we lost to BAA a few games ago, we bounced back with a win over St David’s and now have our destiny in our own hands.“It’s important to remember that every player on a team is important to the cause because if one player doesn’t believe then it undoes all the hard work everyone else is putting in.”Parish follow up this weekend’s game with Rangers with another home match against X’Roads.Their final match of the season is against Young Men’s Social Club at Bernard Park.St David’s run-in sees them face Somerset Eagles at St John’s Field followed by Ireland Rangers at Malabar, while BAA travel to Garrison Field to play X’Roads on Sunday and then host Boulevard at Goose Gosling Field.
