Decision day for Onions and Hood

Robin Hood will look to overhaul Flanagan’s Onions tomorrow as they continue their fight for top flight survival.Hood beat fellow relegation-threatened side St George’s on Thursday night 1-0 courtesy of an Antwan Russell penalty, ensuring the east enders’ trip back to the First Division. Now, heading into the final weekend of fixtures, Hood need things to go their win in order to complete the impossible and stay in the Digicel Premier Division.“We are still in it, we are excited heading into the final weekend needing the result. We still need help, and still have to do our job but it isn’t impossible, we have gotten this far so let’s how it all ends..“We will need to go back and sort things out for the game Sunday, but we feel that if we can stick to our game plan then we can stay up, obviously we can’t win and make ourselves safe but that is the life we are in right now,” said coach Kyle Lightbourne.“When you need a result you need to go and get it but you also have to remain disciplined and focused at the back and that’s what we were the other night and will need to do it again.”As it stands, Onions are holding onto the final spot above the relegation zone on 17 points, while Hood are three points back on 14.Somerset Trojans hosts Onions on the final day of the season at White Hill Field with Hood welcoming North Village to Goose Gosling Field and with everything to play for.Should Onions lose and Hood win, Hood would stay up due to their superior goal difference (-18 to -22). However, a point is all Onions need to be safe in the top flight for another season, having come up to the Premier Division for the first time last season.Onions coach Dermot O’Sullivan knows that his team’s fate is in their own hands and his side will do everything they can to avoid the drop.“We know what needs to be done, and will go out looking to get the result required,” said O’Sullivan.Elsewhere in Premier Division action, champagne will be the order of the day at Southampton Oval when champions Devonshire Cougars receive their coveted title after their match against Southampton Rangers.Bottom team St George’s welcome PHC to Wellington Oval, while Dandy Town host Wolves at St John’s Field.
