Peterborough bid for Wells turned down
Peterborough United have revealed they had a bid for Bradford striker Nahki Wells turned down.Wells, who scored 26 goals last season, has been linked with several club this summer with Leeds, Burnley and Huddersfield believed to be interested. But the Posh’s bid thought to be made around two weeks ago is the first to be made public, with their chairman Darragh MacAthony tweeting: “We bid for him but turned down so no chance I am afraid.”City have made it clear that they do not want to sell Wells and would only listen to offers that manager Phil Parkinson deemed good enough to bring in a replacement. It would also seem unlikely that Wells, who has another two years on his contract, would be interested by another League One club.Wells told The Royal Gazette in a recent interview that he was more than happy to stay at Valley Parade, but admitted if the right opportunity came along then he would have to consider it.“I’m contracted to Bradford, I’m happy at Bradford and the club have done a lot for me, but I would never rule out the option of playing at a higher level,” he said.“It’s the same for any player . . . it’s a no-brainer that if you have the opportunity to kick on in your career then you have to take it.”
