‘We should have won’ — Wells

Nahki Wells endured a bitter sweet weekend.

The Bradford City striker returned to action from injury but could not prevent his team from losing to Wolves (1-2) at Valley Parade on Saturday.

It was only the Bantams second home defeat of the season.

“We deserved more,” Wells told The Royal Gazette yesterday. “I felt we dominated probably two thirds of the game and was very unfortunate not to win let alone draw.”

Wells tested Wolves ‘keeper Carl Ikeme on several occasions after coming on as a half-time sub for Italian team-mate Raffaele De Vita but could not find a way through.

“I felt I should’ve scored and the ‘keeper made some unbelievable saves to keep them in front,” he said. “I did have a few chances . . . but they were half chances.”

Saturday’s appearance was Wells’ first since limping off with an injury against Shrewsbury Town at Valley Parade on September 28.

Scans later revealed that the former Dandy Town player damaged ligaments in his left ankle during a challenge which forced him onto the sidelines for four matches.

But an impressive display at the weekend, albeit in a losing cause, earned Wells praise from Bantams boss Phil Parkinson and would’ve have done the player’s confidence the world of good as he seeks to regain a starting role in the squad.

“It’s great to be back in action, especially in probably our biggest home fixture of the season,” added Wells. “It’s been a long four weeks but to be back feels great.”

Bradford did not enjoy the best of times in Wells’ absence and have been winless in their last four outings. But despite the dip in form the Yorkshire club remain in the hunt for promotion.

“It’s been a tough spell over the last month picking a point up from our last four games,” Wells said. “But we still find ourselves sixth which shows we are still in with a shout.”
