Striker hoping to be fit for Oldham
Nahki Wells hopes to regain full health for Bradford’s away game against Oldham on Sunday.
The 23-year-old striker is one of several Bradford players currently recovering from flu.
Wells felt ill on Monday but started City’s 1-1 home draw with League One bottom side Notts County on Tuesday before being replaced late on.
“The early hours of Monday morning I woke up feeling poorly,” he told The Royal Gazette. “I recovered enough to play fully drugged up and very weak.
“I gave everything I had in the tank and had to ask to be substituted.”
Wells missed Monday’s training session and was given an extra day off by Bradford manager Phil Parkinson yesterday to recover.
“I believe it was a 24-hour flu going around because most lads were able to recover from it in 24 hours,” he added. “Given days off was definitely needed and hopefully we all can overcome it.”
Despite feeling unwell, Wells made his presence felt in Bradford’s draw with Notts County.
He had a goal disallowed and set up Bradford’s equaliser.
Wells converted from close range in the 25th minute during a set piece only to have his effort waved off by the linesman’s flag.
The visitors took the lead just before half time through a goal from midfielder Garry Liddle.
But City drew level to earn a share of the spoils in the 69th minute.
Wells laid a pass off to team-mate Mark Yeates who drilled a low effort into the bottom corner from just inside the area.
Notts County were reduced to ten men late in the match. Marcus Haber received a straight red after appearing to flick an elbow at City midfielder Gary Jones during an aerial challenge for the ball.
