Brown demands concerted focus from Cougars

Wolves and Devonshire Cougars do battle in Premier Division action tonight (8pm) at Devonshire Recreation Club, with each needing the points to suit their own requirements.

A win for Cougars will put them back atop the standings, while a win for Wolves will put them clear of the relegation zone heading into the weekend’s matches.

With a showdown against fellow title challengers Dandy Town next for Cougars, three points and a good performance are essential to continuing the momentum built heading into the top-of-the-table clash.

“We know what needs to be done, we have been here before and just need to deal with what is in front of us,” Dennis Brown, the Cougars coach, said.

“It is important to get the maximum points from every match you play at home because it will go a long way in determining where you finish in the table.

“When you focus on the table and not the results and effort that you are putting into your matches, then you have a real problem and we won’t let that affect us.”

Cougars are level on points with Town and are riding a three-game winning streak that includes wins over PHC and North Village.

Hamilton Parish were the wrong end of a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Cougars last weekend.

Wolves have had a topsy-turvy season, winning two games, losing four and earning a draw the last time out, 3-3 away to St David’s. They are in seventh place on seven points.

Last year, the two clubs shared the spoils in both of their league encounters as they fought to 1-1 and 3-3 draws. Wolves would probably bite your hand off for a similar fate now.

Chris Caisey Jr, the Cougars captain, echoed his coach’s sentiments, expects a tough night. “There won’t be any shying away from tackles.” he said.
