Rangers sunk by student Albouy

College student Shakeem Albouy earned top grades after inspiring visiting Hamilton Parish to victory in this scrappy Friendship Trophy quarter-final at Southampton Oval yesterday.

The Hot Peppers striker netted a brace either side of the interval before substitute Donavan Thompson came off the bench to grab the visitors’ third. Rangers stalwart Janeiro Tucker replied for the hosts, who pinned their opponents in their own half for long spells but had nothing to show for their dominance.

Albouy was originally named on the teamsheet as a substitute but was promoted to a starting role after teammate Thompson arrived at the ground late.

And the striker grasped his opportunity with both hands, scoring in the 21st and 69th minutes against the run of play to help his team book passage through to the last four in the competition..

“[Shakeem] is definitely making the coach’s job hard going into the next game because he got two excellent goals and showed some real quality,” said Parish coach Kieshon Smith.

Missed opportunities came back to haunt the hosts as Albouy gave Parish the lead after capitalising on some poor defending. The striker intercepted a soft back-pass to goalkeeper Jason Smith and after rounding the stranded goalkeeper before firing home.

The goal the home side desperately sought finally arrived when a cross in the middle was nodded in by Tucker at the back post.

Albouy added his second when he timed his run down the middle to perfection to remain onside, dribbled several yards before rounding the onrushing Smith and slotting into the empty net.

Thompson then killed the game off when he flicked a Shayne Hollis cross past Smith from close range.
