PHC can only get better –Robinson

Buoyant: PHC’s Robinson

Cecoy Robinson, the PHC Zebras captain, is feeling buoyant after his club kicked off the second half of the season with a comfortable win at the weekend.

A hat-trick from overseas college student Ryan Hassel gave PHC a 3-0 win over Wolves at Southampton Oval, moving them up two places to sixth in the league table, with 12 points.

PHC play league leaders Dandy Town at St John’s Field this weekend and Robinson believes that his side have turned the corner after a poor start to the campaign.

“The win was good for us, both in terms of the standings and morale for the side coming after a break,” the striker said.

“Our goals from the beginning of the season haven’t changed for us. We’re taking it one game at a time and will continue to play as a team. If we can do this, I think we will be fine.”

The season started off in the worst possible way for PHC, losing their first three games and four of the first six in their league schedule.

Back-to-back victories over Hamilton Parish and Wolves in their past two outings, however, have put them in a strong position for a Dudley Eve Trophy spot. The top six qualify for next season’s competition.

PHC have also been able to feed off the momentum of the club’s youngsters, who returned home during the Christmas period to claim the PDL Festive Tournament.

“The PDL run was good for us in terms of both the junior and senior players forging a good partnership that can only help us down the stretch,” Robinson said.

“The youngsters put on a good show and I think it just shows the bright future that PHC have going forward.

“Hats off to them as they performed well in the holiday tournament. If they help us before they go back, we will put our best foot forward for the rest of the season.”
