Village youngsters raise cash for Scotland tour

North Village raised $3,000 during last weekend’s youth tag day to go towards sending the club’s youngsters on a trip to Scotland this year.

In a touching act of selflessness, a homeless man, keen to support Village’s youngsters, is said to have donated all he had into one of the tag buckets.

Village signed a five-year development agreement with Rangers last summer as part of the Scottish League One side’s International Soccer Schools programme.

Each Village player is hoping to raise $3,000 to cover the costs of the trip, where they will play against overseas teams and receive expert coaching from Rangers coaches. The initiative resulted in 15 Village youngsters visiting the club last season, with that number expected to double for this year’s trip.

As part of the arrangement, Rangers coaches will share coaching methods and techniques with Village, whose youth teams are to benefit from regular trips to Murray Park, the club’s training complex.

Other fundraising events held during the tag day included bake sales, movie days and potlucks.

Rangers coaches will visit Bermuda in April to hold a youth training camp.
