Nolan hits treble for defending champions

PHC Zebras, the defending champions, got their Women’s Futsal League title defence off to a perfect start during the opening round of the season at Warwick Academy last weekend.

Zebras had to pull out all the stops to keep a formidable Footy Force Stars at bay, squeaking past their rivals 6-5 in a contest that could have gone either way.

Aaliyah Nolan led the way for Zebras with a hat-trick, Symira Lowe-Darrell added a brace while Taznae Fubler also scored.

Cheyra Bell scored a hat-trick in a losing cause for Footy Force Stars while Zara Gibbons and Jahziyah Samuels chipped in with goals.

Zebras led 4 -2 at the break and then withstood enormous pressure in the second half as their opponents rallied.

Somerset Trojans were the day’s biggest winners after hammering Young Men’s Social Club 11-0 with Dazhja Greaves and Eve Frazzoni each netting hat-tricks.

Greaves scored five goals and Frazzoni three while Sierra Fisher, Kimika Jackson and Deshae Darrell netted one apiece.

Trojans led 6-0 at the break and added five more goals in the second half.

The remaining contest saw Dandy Stars record a convincing 7-2 win against Hamilton Parish.

Cleshaunae Darrell-Virgil, Shonte Campbell and Dazarre Place led Stars’ charge with two goals each while Jaelyn Bean also managed to get her name on the scoresheet.

Parish replied through goals from Keisha Hollis and Tricia Lima.

Stars led 7-0 at the interval but were unable to add to their tally when play resumed as their opponents produced a better defensive showing.

Women’s Futsal League continues on Saturday at Warwick Academy at 5pm.
