Town poised to avenge Parish hurt
Brandon Minors, the Dandy Town captain, has backed his side to step up and be accounted for when they clash with Hamilton Parish tomorrow at St John’s Field.
Town, the league leaders, enter their FA Cup quarter-final on the back of a well-earned 3-1 win over Wolves in their last outing.
With the league campaign taking a back seat for a week, Minors is adamant that his side will not take the break from chasing three points lightly with silverware on the line.
“Our destiny is in our own hands, both in the league and the FA Cup,” Minors said. “We know how hard it will be when it comes down to winning games that you need to win, but we are enjoying this at the moment.
“We are going to give it everything we have in both competitions and hopefully in the end it all works out in our favour.”
The sides met less than two weeks ago, with Parish winning 2-1 at Wellington Oval. Not calling the match a chance for revenge, Minors is of the mindset of righting past wrongs.
“It was a good game against Wolve,” he said. “We wanted to to come back with a win after the loss to Parish. We know that they [Parish] are a good side, but we need to stick to what is asked of us from the coaching staff, If we can do that, we should be fine.
“That match wasn’t a good one for us in terms of getting on top from the beginning, but we have another shot at them in the FA Cup and this time there is more on the line than just three points.”
Minors added: “Matches like this are good for both sides because we both feel that we can beat the other. They have a good side down there; they work for each other, so it won’t be an easy task.”
Another side harbouring ambitions of doing the double this year are North Village Rams. Only three points behind Town in the league, the outfit from Bernard Park are at Southampton Oval tomorrow to lock horns with Southampton Rangers.
Ralph Bean Jr, the Rams coach, echoed Minors’s sentiments, as Village go in search of their first piece of silverware for the season.
“It’s that time of the season where teams are fighting for anything they can get,” Bean said. “This weekend is no different.
“Everyone wants to win, but to win tomorrow means we, as a team, are one game away from playing for the ultimate prize.
“Players want to win the FA Cup. You look forward to a cup weekend, but when it’s the FA Cup, the mind focus is different from any other week in the season.
“Every match we have played Rangers lately has been very competitive and this weekend I believe that it won’t be any different.”
The day’s remaining quarter-final is an all-First Division match-up between league leaders Robin Hood and fellow promotion chasers St George’s Colts at Wellington Oval.
Ireland Island Rangers play X-Roads in a rescheduled First Division match at Malabar Field tomorrow.
