League leaders Hood make it six in a row
Jesse Kirkland scored and had a hand in two other goals as First Division leaders Robin Hood cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win over Young Men’s Social Club at Goose Gosling Field.

Social Club, who squandered a plethora of gilt edge chances, pulled one back a minute later after Kenneth Butterfield capitalised on poor defending in the area.
Kirkland restored Hood’s three goal cushion and rounded off the scoring in the 71st minute from a set piece. St George’s took advantage of the shared points by promotion rivals Devonshire Colts and X-Roads to move into sole possession of second place, following their 3-2 win over Boulevard at Wellington Oval.
The east enders had to endure a nervous final fifteen minutes after a penalty converted by Aaron Williams in the 74th minute following a handball by Ernest Signor brought Boulevard back to 3-2 before a late surge left St George’s holding out for the win which avenged an earlier loss to their opponents.
Ernest Signor gave St George’s the lead from the penalty spot in the eighth minute before Williams scored his first penalty to make it 1-1 11 minutes later. Macai Simmons restored the St George’s lead in the 46th minute and defender Philip Anderson extended the lead to 3-1 12 minutes later before Williams’ second penalty produced some anxiety for St George’s in the closing minutes.
Joshua Desilva scored a hat-trick as BAA thrashed Paget 8-0 at Southampton Oval.
He was amply helped in the goal scoring department by teammates, with Jamin Lottimore scoring twice in the rout. Nassir Richardson, Dante Taylor and an own goal by Don Vickers completed the scoring. Somerset Eagles beat Ireland Rangers 7-3 in a high scoring match at Malabar Field. Jonathan Bean opened the scoring for Ireland Rangers from the penalty spot in the 14th minute before Darrin Dowling equalised for Eagles from the spot two minutes later.
Marcus Simmons put Eagles in front for the first time in the 27th minute and Dowling hit his second of the match in the 44th minute from the penalty spot to give Eagles a 3-1 lead at the half. The second half produced six more goals as Simmons got the scoring going again a minute after the restart with his second goal as Eagles went further ahead before Bean added his and his team’s second to pull Rangers back to 4-2 in the 53rd minute.
Shentoine Lambert hit the fifth for Eagles in the 58th minute, then Tahj Wade got on the scoring act in the 75th minute to pull Ireland Rangers back to 5-3. Two late goals by Anwar Telford and Ian Mullings in the 78th and 82nd minutes closed out the comfortable win for Eagles.
A superb volley from Tristan Daniels, the X-Roads striker, dented Devonshire Colts’ First Division title hopes with both teams sharing the spoils at Police Field yesterday.
Second place Colts, who were hoping to crank up the pressure on league leaders Robin Hood, went into the interval with a 1-0 lead thanks to a 43rd minute strike from Temiko Eve.
Rico Beek, the X-Roads midfielder, went close with a volley from the edge of the area which Gregory Rose, the Colts goalkeeper, did well to push wide for corner.
On 79 minutes the lively Daniels found an equaliser with an acrobatic first-time volley which flew into the far corner, giving Rose no chance, to keep alive X-Roads’ slim chances of promotion.
Gerald Bean, the Colts coach, said he was satisfied with the draw and believed his side still had every chance of securing promotion.
“We could have got the three points and we would have certainly appreciated the three points,” Bean said.
“Next week we play against Robin Hood so it was important we came out with at least something from today’s game on our home pitch.
“All of our games are huge at this stage of the season and hopefully we can close the gap on Hood next week.
“We’re not underestimating anybody but we have quite a nice run-in before finishing against second place St George’s.”
