Bermuda three chosen for Chelsea clinic
Bermuda youngsters Ahria Simons, Jason Symonds and Kamali Davis have been selected by Chelsea coaches to travel to Barbados in October to take part in the Digicel Kick Start Academy.
The talented trio were picked from a group of 30 players that participated in the Kick Start coaching clinic, which was held at Goose Gosling Field last Friday and Saturday.
Simons, 14, Symonds, 14, Davis, 15, were challenged to two days of tests which enabled the Chelsea coaches to judge their athletic and technical abilities.
Llineiko Millett, 16, is on standby as a wildcard pick. Wildcard entrants are selected from participating clinics across the Caribbean based on their scores in speed and agility testing, with and without a football.
Llineiko will be included in a social media campaign entitled “Pick Your Top 3” alongside 13 other wildcard entrants in July. The three wildcard entrants with the most votes will also attend the Digicel Kick Start Academy in Barbados.
David Monk, the senior international development football officer at the Chelsea Foundation, said that the narrowing down their search to three just three players was a difficult process.
“Having an extra day to work with the players allowed us to build a more conclusive profile of each individual, thus ensuring that we were justified in our selection,” Monk said.
“We look forward to working with the three successful candidates in Barbados.”
John Doran, the BAA president, said: “The BAA is delighted to have partnered with Digicel once again this year. The wealth of knowledge shared with our local coaches and participating footballers was invaluable.
“The boys selected to attend the Digicel Kick Start Academy will undoubtedly receive a life changing experience and boost on their footballing resumes.”
Bermuda is the third of 14 Caribbean countries that the Digicel Kick Start Academy will visit over the next few months.
