Eve handed first-team opportunity
Dale Eve, the Bermuda goalkeeper, is set to make his debut for Forest Green Rovers in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round away to Margate.
Eve, who signed for Forest Green on loan from Barclays Premier League side Stoke City, has been handed the No 1 jersey with Jonny Maxted nursing a shoulder injury and Steve Arnold yet to return to full training after ankle surgery.
Ady Pennock, the Forest Green manager, told the Gloucester Citizen: “Jonny has been absolutely brilliant for us, but the amount of games he has played are starting to catch up with him.
“People forget that he is only 21 and he hadn’t played many first-team games before he joined us in the summer. He has got a sore shoulder and one or two other niggles so he needs a break.
“Steve Arnold will hopefully be back in training in a couple of days but it looks like there will be a debut for Dale Eve at Margate, which I’m more than happy with.
“He has got all the tools to be a fantastic goalkeeper and is the type of lad who won’t be fazed by an occasion like Saturday.
“We’ve extended his loan and Stoke have given us permission to play him in the FA Cup, which we’re very grateful for.”
Eve, 20, was part of Bermuda’s squad for this year’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
Forest Green are top of the table in the Vanarama National League.
n Nahki Wells will look to build on his goal-scoring performance against MK Dons in midweek when Huddersfield Town take on Derby County at the John Smith’s Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Reggie Lambe, who also scored in midweek, will be in action in high-flying Mansfield Town’s League Two clash away to Portsmouth.
