Sturridge still missing in action

In doubt: Sturridge is working his way back from injury, again (Photograph by Jon Super/AP/File)

There was news this week that a man had gone missing during a stadium tour of Anfield.

Reports later confirmed that Daniel Sturridge had been found safe and well.

It appeared he had become confused when shown the changing room and fled to the more familiar surroundings of the doctor’s office.

When asked about the incident, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said: “Daniel Starr ... Sturr. No, sorry, I don’t know him ... but football is not a fairy tale, it is entertainment, high energy, heavy metal, pressing, beautiful, we must run and run ... let’s go!”

Or something to that effect.

Meanwhile, in London, Klopp’s managerial opponent this weekend was informed that papers had been served for the wrongful dismissal of his club doctor, launched a one-man mission to take down the British press and was last seen locked in his training ground office surrounded by CCTV cameras. One was rumoured to be filming Arsène Wenger.

At some point, though, José Mourinho must put his paranoia and victim complex to one side to get Diego Costa off the doughnuts, reintroduce Nemanja Matic to a football and check Cesc Fàbregas’s Rioja intake.

Tomorrow, José will also have to deal with Klopp punching the air after every tackle. It promises to be a fascinating match.

Tomorrow’s games

Noon kick-offs unless stated

Chelsea v Liverpool

9.45am

As bad as Chelsea have been, Liverpool remain a work in progress — one that is hardly free-scoring. That said, if Christian Benteke can cause the home side’s defence the same problems Andy Carroll did. Mourinho’s mood could get even darker.

Optimistic Chelsea fans will point to marginally improved performances and the fact they have lost only three of their past 38 league games at home.

Prediction: 1-1

Crystal Palace v Man United

Wayne Rooney’s selection over Anthony Martial up front is mystifying when the Englishman’s form has nosedived so spectacularly.

United’s blunt attack is a wider issue, however. Despite possessing millions of dollars of attacking talent, organised stodginess seems to be Louis van Gaal’s preference right now.

Prediction: 0-0

Man City v Norwich City

After shipping goals at Newcastle recently, a game at the Etihad is probably the last thing Norwich want. Hard to see anything other than an emphatic home victory.

Prediction: 4-0

Newcastle United v Stoke City

The derby defeat to Sunderland featured a disgraceful penalty and sending-off decision that ruined the game for this neutral. Newcastle, until Fabricio Coloccini saw red, were the better side and there are seeds at least of a team there.

Stoke were going along nicely until beaten by Watford. Manager Mark Hughes will demand a response.

Prediction: 2-1

Swansea City v Arsenal

Despite their defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup, which one suspects no one at the club really cares about, Arsenal should have too much for the Welsh side.

Swansea’s early-season form has subsided dramatically and danger men like Bafétimbi Gomis and Jefferson Montero have been struggling.

Prediction: 0-2

Watford v West Ham United

West Ham are unbeaten in seven league games and could go top this weekend. It’s been a terrific season so far and, even taking into account Watford’s own impressive performances and front pairing of Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, this looks like an away win.

Prediction: 0-2

West Brom v Leicester City

Wretched to watch, WBA have still managed back-to-back wins to haul themselves into the top half. It’s a success built on defensive solidarity rather than thrill-a-minute football.

Leicester’s in-form attackers Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez will be given arguably their toughest assignment of the season.

Prediction: 1-0

Sunday’s games

Everton v Sunderland

9.30am

Everton had moments of promise in the defeat to Arsenal but must go for victory against Sam Allardyce’s seemingly rejuvenated Sunderland without injured skipper Phil Jagielka.

Ross Barkley to inspire a home win.

Prediction: 1-0

Southampton v Bournemouth

Noon

If Artur Boruc plays, Southampton should clean up. The Poland international effectively threw the ball in the net three times last weekend.

Graziano Pellè has a superb scoring record at home for Southampton and will be a popular choice for Fantasy managers this weekend.

Prediction: 2-0

Monday’s game

Tottenham v Aston Villa

4pm

Unbeaten at home, with the joint best defence in the league and with Harry Kane now back in the goals, managerless Aston Villa appear to have no chance.

Villa look to have picked former Lyon boss Remi Garde to be their new manager. They need him.

Prediction: 3-0
