Bookies backing Wells to continue hot streak
Nahki Wells will look to extend his potent form when Huddersfield Town host stuttering Ipswich Town in the Sky Bet Championship at John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow.
Ipswich always seem to bring the best out of the Bermuda striker, who has an impressive scoring record against Mick McCarthy’s team, who are six places above Huddersfield in the table.
“I’ve just been fortunate enough to have scored in all of my fixtures against them besides one,” Wells said. “I can take that as a confidence boost going into Saturday and the fact that we’re back at home.”
Bookmakers Stan James have the striker 5/4 to hit the net at any time in tomorrow’s match, while William Hill have him 4/1 in the game’s first-scorer market.
“I’m an odds on favourite to score against Ipswich, which isn’t a big concern to me,” Wells said. “That’s just the bookies because obviously I’ve been in fine form and that’s just the way it goes.”
The former Dandy Town player bagged his fourteenth goal of the season and fourth in his last five appearances to rescue a point for Huddersfield away to Milton Keynes Dons on Tuesday.
“I’m pleased with my goals to games ratio,” Wells, whose late equaliser equalled his tally from last season, said.
“I would always like for it to be more, but I can’t complain averaging nearly a goal a game over the last ten to 12 games.”
Huddersfield are in sixteenth in the table and unbeaten in their previous three outings, while tenth-placed Ipswich have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions.
Even though Ipswich have been in free fall lately, Wells is not taking anything for granted against the visiting side.
“Ipswich are a tough side, a very good solid team,” Wells said.
“They’re a tough team to break down, but hopefully being at home and taking the positives from our last two results, I don’t see why we can’t come out with a victory.”
Elsewhere tomorrow, Reggie Lambe and his Mansfield Town team-mates are away to Newport County in League Two, while Rai Simons and Chesterfield are away to Gillingham in League One.
