Stars start season in fine style

Up and running: the new Futsal season started at the weekend

The new Futsol Women’s League started on Saturday at the Bermuda College gym with Dandy Stars defeating league champions PHC 12-5.

PHC started the match with only four players and were punished by a determined Stars team who led comfortably 5-0 at the interval. They could easily have led by a bigger margin had it not been for some outstanding goalkeeping by PHC’s Kalay Hollis.

In the second half Smira Lowe-Darrell made up the needed fifth player for PHC and made an immediate impact with her three goals as the champions made an impressive comeback, scoring four of the next six goals.

However, Shauntae Todd of Stars could not be stopped as she then scored five goals in the half to put the game out of PHC’s reach. Todd was superb for Stars, netting seven goals while goalkeeper Hollis was MVP for PHC who have been champions the last three years.

In the opening game Somerset won by default over Young Men’s Social Club and received three points.
