Wilkinson refuses to panic
Jomar Wilkinson, the Dandy Town coach, insists that his team’s Premier Division title defence is not over despite losing their opening three league matches.
Hornets remain anchored at the bottom of the table without any points after defeats against Robin Hood, Devonshire Cougars and Somerset Trojans with two of those losses at St John’s Field.
However, Wilkinson is refusing to write off his team’s chances of defending their title just yet.
“I still have a belief that we can win the title,” Wilkinson said. “This team is quality and has a lot of character, and so I’m definitely not going to push the panic button.”
Town have struggled on both sides of the ball, scoring just two goals and conceding six in the league so far.
“We have to be a bit more clinical in and around the goal and defensively we have to be a bit more organised at times,” Wilkinson said.
Town are away tomorrow to a Boulevard side that is gradually shifting through the gears after making a slow start to the season.
One less headache that Wilkinson will have going into the match at Police Field is in the goalkeeping department as former Stoke City player Dale Eve has received international clearance to play for his childhood club.
Boulevard are on a two-game winning streak after successive victories over Somerset Eagles and Devonshire Colts and will look to keep their momentum going against a Town side led by Angelo Simmons, a former Boulevard forward.
Elsewhere tomorrow, leaders North Village are away to Flanagan’s Onions at Goose Gosling Field.
Village will look to get back to winning ways after being held to a draw by Hood at the same venue in their previous league outing while Onions are still searching for their first league victory.
Also still hunting for their first league win are Devonshire Colts who host PHC Zebras at Police Field while Eagles face Trojans in a West End derby at White Hill Field.
Tonight will pit Robin Hood against Cougars at Goose Gosling Field.
In the First Division, leaders St David’s are away to Hamilton Parish at Wellington Oval, Young Men’s Social Club host BAA at PHC Field, X Roads play St George’s at Garrison Field, Ireland Rangers take on Southampton Rangers at Malabar Field while Paget Lions host Wolves at Southampton Oval.
