Lambe scores in cup rout

On target: Carlisle's Reggie Lambe

Reggie Lambe was on target in Carlisle United’s 5-3 thrashing of St Albans City in the FA Cup first round at Clarence Park yesterday.

Lambe, who came on as a 42nd-minute substitute, scored his side’s fifth goal in the 88th minute with a follow-up shot after Jabo Ibehre had been denied a hat-trick.

Carlisle’s other goals came from Jason Kennedy and a first-half penalty by Danny Grainger.

Junior Morais gave the Vanarama National League South side the lead and later added another to make it 2-2 before Louie Theophanous’s late consolation.

Meanwhile Nahki Wells’s Huddersfield Town drew 1-1 at home to Birmingham City at the weekend.

Lukas Jutkiewicz’s struck with a 73rd-minute header after Elias Kachunga had put Huddersfield ahead just four minutes earlier. Wells then hit the bar before Jutkiewicz’s equaliser.

Jaylor Bather, the Bermuda defender, conceded a penalty as Ilkeston fought back to draw 2-2 away to Marine in the Pro Evo-Stik League Northern Premier.

All four goals came during a first-half thriller, with Ben Morris opening the scoring for Ilkeston before the visiting side doubled their lead through Liam Willis. Maine pulled one back when Danny Mitchley’s shot cannoned in off Rory Coleman, with Kurt Sherlock then equalising from the spot after Bather had pulled down Lewis Field.
