X-Roads produced an upset yesterday when they clinched a deserved 4-2 victory of Premier Division side Devonshire Colts at Garrison Field yesterday.

It looked like being a routine victory for Colts when they took a seventh-minute lead through midfielder Teniko Eve who drove a left-footed effort inside the post after the ball had been knocked back into the middle of the box after a corner.

X-Roads suffered a setback just before that when striker Mackih McGowan went off with an ankle injury just two minutes into the match.

In fact, X-Roads were playing with ten men when that goal, and their ninth-minute equaliser, went in.

X-Roads finally replaced McGowan with Terencio Lowe in the nineteenth minute, by which time they were back in the game after Rico Beek’s leveller after a good run down the left side by Daniel Baker when Aaron Spencer fed him a good pass.

His cross was tapped home by Beek.

X-Roads went in front for the first time in the 21st minute when Paul Simons beat goalkeeper Gregory Rose from close range.

However, Colts drew level ten minutes later through Kyle Jones’s well-taken effort.

Substitute Lowe completed the first half scoring when he put X-Roads back in front in the 42nd minute after getting through and beating the exposed Rose at the near post.

Colts had an injury setback of their own early in the second half when defender Quinton Jones injured himself in a tackle on the X-Roads player.

Jones lay motionless on the pitch with a suspected broken leg until the ambulance arrived.

The match was delayed for almost a half-hour and when play resumed, Colts had a new determination about them as they sought the equaliser.

However, they also had to deal with X-Roads who were dangerous on the counter-attack, with Baker posing problems to their defence with his pace.

The striker had a strong run into the Colts box in the 75th minute halted by a challenge from the advancing Rose.

Simons converted the penalty to make it 4-2 and take the First Division side into the last eight of the competition.
