Derby County manager Frank Lampard does not believe a loan deal for Bermuda striker Nahki Wells is dead, although he says he is pleased with his present crop of strikers.

Wells, the Burnley forward became a possible season-long loan target for Derby days before the transfer deadline on Thursday, as part of the deal that took Matej Vydra, the Czech Republic striker from Derby to Turf Moor.

However, the deal for Wells did not materialise as Vydra completed his move to Turf Moor on Tuesday evening.

Yesterday, the Derby Telegraph reported that Lampard, the former Chelsea and England midfielder, has not ruled out taking Wells on loan as English Football League clubs can still make temporary signings until the end of this month.

“It was part of the conversation at an early stage with Vydra going to Burnley, and it didn’t come through in the end,” Lampard said.

“I am actually very pleased with our attacking options as it stands, so it was one of those that got some headlines but didn’t come through. I don’t want to rule anything out but at the moment it is not my main concern, as opposed to the game against Leeds tomorrow.”

Derby signed two strikers during the transfer window to replace Vydra — Martyn Waghorn, from Ipswich Town, and Jack Marriott, from Peterborough United.

Meanwhile, another Sky Bet Championship club reported to be keeping tabs on Wells are Queens Park Rangers. who are said to be looking to bring in two loan strikers, including Tomer Hemed from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Burnley are said to be willing to loan out Wells, who joined the club last year from Huddersfield Town, but has failed to establish himself as a starter, making ten appearances, all from the bench, last season.
