Lambe calls for calm in front of goal

Cambridge forward Reggie Lambe

Reggie Lambe has urged his Cambridge United team-mates to show greater composure in front of goal after failing to score in seven of their past away matches.

The Sky Bet League Two side lost 1-0 to Yeovil Town last weekend, despite enjoying the superior swathes of possession during the second half and creating several chances.

Lambe, who has not netted since Cambridge’s 2-0 over Swindon Town at the end of October, is confident his side’s fortunes will turn if they stick together and keep believing in themselves.

“I just think everyone needs to calm down and just settle the game down a bit,” Lambe told Cambridge Live. “I think us coming out knowing that we had to get a couple points here may have put a bit of pressure on everyone, but I just think, as a whole, we need to go back and know we’re working for each other.

“We just need to come together as a team and let each other know that we’re here in the same situation and we’re backing each other.”

Lambe, who did not make Bermuda’s trip to Cuba, as the island prepares for their crucial Concacaf Nations League qualifier against Dominican Republic next month, said it was tough not come away with at least a point against Yeovil.

Cambridge are six points above the relegation zone and travel to Grimsby Town on Saturday.

“It’s very frustrating to come all this way [to lose],” said Lambe, who played on the left wing against Yeovil, his first start since Cambridge’s 6-0 defeat to MK Dons on New Year’s Day.

“We knew this was a big game for us given the position we’re in and we knew we needed to come away from here with a point at least. It’s frustrating for us and we just need to go back and work on a few things on the training ground and put them into practice next week.

“I think we just need to go back, regroup and start to get some points on the board so we can start to move up the table and get ourselves clear of this little relegation battle we have.”

Lambe is working his way back to fitness after missing a month because of a dead leg and said it felt great to get 90 minutes under his belt.

“I’m very happy to be back,” he said. “To get those minutes under my belt is what I really needed. Hopefully I can keep my spot for next week.

“I’m back to full fitness, I’m just looking to get minutes and get a bit of sharpness back.”
