Devonshire Cougars could seal the first Dudley Eve semi-final spot, while Somerset Trojans will be hoping to avoid elimination when the Dudley Eve Trophy group matches continue tonight at Goose Gosling Field. Cougars meet holders Dandy Town at 9pm, with the Trojans and North Village battling it out in the 7pm opener. Cougars won their opening group B match, a 2-0 win over PHC Zebras on September 7, the last time games were played because of the threat of hurricanes Paulette and Teddy. Cougars need just a draw to make certain of finishing in the top two in the group, while Somerset will be determined to get a victory over Village to keep their hopes alive in group A. The second matches in the Dudley Eve Trophy were postponed on September 13 and with a new date not yet confirmed. Dandy Town will play PHC while Village take on Robin Hood in what will now be the final group matches to determine the matchups for the semi-finals, which are scheduled for October 28. Only three matches have been played so far this season, with Village no doubt eager to get back on the pitch after their 4-0 loss to Southampton Rangers in the Charity Cup on September 4. Tre Ming netted two first-half penalties on his debut for Trojans following his move from PHC. The Zebras have also lost their captain Cecoy Robinson who is still waiting to make his debut for new club Town after their first two matches of the season were postponed. Robinson is expected to make his debut for Town against a Cougars team which has been strengthened with the return of Lejaun Simmons from Hood and the signing of youngster Che’Kai Caisey from Village. Simmons netted on his return, scoring the second goal in Cougars match against Zebras.Cougars were beaten three times by Town last season, twice in the league and also in the Dudley Eve Trophy semi-finals.The four participating teams will be provided tickets each to sell to their fans. The remaining tickets will be sold from the BFA Office today on a first come first serve basis Town, who beat Hood 5-2 in last year’s final, have won the Dudley Eve Trophy ten times, six times when it was the Martonmere Cup from 1972-73 to 2008-09. They also won it four times since it became the Dudley Eve Trophy in 2009-10, making them the most successful team in this competition in the past decade.The original Dudley Eve Trophy, which started in 1978-79 and involved the top four teams over the Christmas holiday with a two-leg final, ended in 2002.
