Keziah Martin is delighted to have been finally given the opportunity to establish himself on the international stage.

After being on the periphery of the Bermuda squad for a number of years under previous head coach Kyle Lightbourne, Martin was finally handed his debut last month under Michael Findlay, starting in the 1-0 win away to Belize before retaining his spot in the 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture.

The 23-year-old, who plays for Boston United in Vanarama National League North, in England, has again been selected among a largely unchanged squad for the two crucial final fixtures in League B group C of the Concacaf Nations League, starting with the visit of St Vincent & the Grenadines on Friday before a crunch clash away to table-topping French Guiana on Tuesday.

For Martin, having had his long-awaited first taste of international football, it is another opportunity to prove his worth within Findlay’s squad.

“I was really happy to have had my first call-up to the national squad and it was great to finally have the opportunity to play for Bermuda,” Martin said.

“It has felt like a long time coming, but finally I’ve been able to be involved and I feel like I did all right in the two games. There are still things to improve and things I need to keep working on, but I was pretty pleased.

“I’ve played in a few what I’d consider big games before and so that feeling of pressure is nothing new to me, but it is certainly different putting on the Bermuda shirt and playing in front of the home fans. It’s a great feeling for me.”

The two fixtures against Belize saw Martin utilised in a deeper central-midfield position than he is usually accustomed to with his club side. While conceding to some minor differences between the roles, he is more than content to feature wherever he is required.

“I really don’t mind wherever the coach wants me to play,” he said. “I like to try to get on the ball and so in that sense it’s not too different to what I’m used to doing.

“There are a few differences and so I will do all I can to learn the position the best I can going forward.”

As well as the frustration of only settling for a share of the spoils last time in an encounter Bermuda largely dominated, Findlay’s side also missed the opportunity to go level on points with French Guiana.

The result left Bermuda third in the group, two points adrift of the group leaders and a further point behind St Vincent ahead of facing both to conclude the campaign.

While still highly disappointed not to have taken all three points in their previous outing, Martin is adamant the side can make amends and keep their aspirations of earning promotion to League B alive.

“We know we should have won the match which is frustrating, but we will put it right next time,” said Martin, who called on the home crowd to come out in force at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Friday evening (7.30pm).

“Our hopes of gaining promotion are not over yet. We still have a chance and we believe in ourselves.

“Hopefully the fans still back us and will come out to get behind us. We are going to give it everything we have.”

Of the minimal changes in Findlay’s squad, winger Zeiko Lewis has returned to the fold, while goalkeeper Andrew Kempe, of Temple University in the United States, has been handed his first call-up, with fellow custodian Quinaceo Hunt and defenders Daniel Cook and Jaylon Bather being omitted.
