Colombia 3 Bermuda 0Bermuda slumped to their third straight defeat of the World Squash Championships in Germany yesterday when they were beaten by Colombia.Robbie Maycock fell 5-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-6 to Javier Castilla, Chris Stout lost 13-11, 11-8, 11-6 against Juan Vargas and Micah Franklin was defeated 11-9, 11-7, 11-3 by Andres Vargas.Bermuda director of squash Patrick Foster described Colombia’s players as “fit, fast and fair”.“Robbie Maycock started Bermuda off with the perfect mixture of tactics for a speedy Javier Castilla of Colombia.“Maycock neutralised Castilla’s speed with some tight medium pace length and some well-timed holds.“Maycock was relentless in the first game pushing forward and playing the ball from the middle of the court. Castilla responded by pushing the tempo of rallies up and getting in front of Maycock with some great shots.“Chris Stout pushed Juan Vargas in the first game but fell short with a few tins during big points.“After winning the first game in extra points Vargas grabbed a hold of the momentum and didn’t let go.“Micah Franklin took on former Trinity College standout Andres Vargas. Franklin did not waste any time choosing an aggressive style of play right from the first point.“Franklin was neck and neck with Vargas during the first game by getting in front and slotting in some great drops deep in the front corners. Vargas showed his match experience as he stayed consistent and won the big points.”Bermuda finished bottom of Group D having also lost to Finland and Australia.Useful website: http://www.squashsite.co.uk/mwt/index.htm
