BLTA launch new tourney
Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) hope to make their latest tournament, the Masters Series, an annual event.Featuring men’s and women’s singles as well as doubles events, the qualifying rounds started on Thursday with the main draw to begin next Wednesday.Held at the JER Joell Tennis Stadium, the competition’s final will be staged next Saturday at 2pm.Some of the Island’s top tennis names are competing in the tournament, including David Thomas and Sam Butler who will be vying for the men’s singles title.BLTA vice-president, Brent Smith, said: “We have invited all of our top players on the Island to play, and 16 to 19 top players will be in action each night at the tennis stadium,” he said.“It’s the first time we have held the tournament but we’re looking at making it annual or, if not, biennial.”
