The Warwick Academy swim team will be aiming to build on past promising performances as they compete in the Easterns Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Meet for the third time. One of the largest and most prestigious United States schools meets, the competition takes place in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the Franklin and Marshall College pool from Friday to Sunday.After strong performances in 2018 and 2019 the team will be looking to show their pedigree against some of the best schools from the US.With around 45 schools and many hundreds of swimmers competing it is the highlight of the school’s swimming circuit. The team of 12 will compete over 25 yards (short course) on Friday and Saturday with the meet changing to 50 metres (long course) on Sunday. Swimmers will race in individual and relay events.A major incentive for the Warwick Academy swimmers is the opportunity to try and catch the eye of college recruiters, who will be looking to fill future rosters; with several hoping to impress as they work themselves through the NCAA and college application process.The team demonstrated their potential at last year’s meet, where they finished a respectable twentieth overall out of 42 schools.As one of the considerably smallest teams competing, Warwick enjoyed relative success with both relay teams reaching the finals.“Finishing twentieth overall was really good for a team of our size,” said coach Ben Smith, following the meet. “We actually scored more individually than teams four times the size as ours.”
