Bermuda teenager Jesse Washington grabbed two gold medals on the opening day of the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships (CISC) in Aruba yesterday.Washington, who won seven medals in the recent Carifta Championships, set two new CISC records in the 11-12 Boy’s 100 metre freestyle and the 11-12 Boy’s 50 metre butterfly. He finished the freestyle in a time of 56.36 seconds and the butterfly in 27.86.Olympic qualifier Roy-Allan Burch claimed a silver in the 100 metre freestyle in 52.45 before coming fourth in the 100 metre butterfly but still lowered his national record time.Veteran Lisa Blackburn scooped a silver in the 400 metre individual medley with a time of 5:11.83 to crush the national record of 5:26.63 set in 1990 by Jenny Smatt.Julian Fletcher followed Blackburn in the 400 individual medley, finishing in 4:59.35 to win the bronze.Shannon Hassell won a silver in the 100 metre backstroke in a time 29.42, while Ashley Yearwood claimed silver in the 100 metre freestyle in a time of 29.42Bermuda’s medal tally stands at nine medals so far in the competition.
