Q: What is a digital SD card?

A: A digital SD (secure digital) card is a small storage card, some very small that store electronic data. The term SD indicates the card meets industry standards that have been determined by the SD Association.

The SD Association was formed in 2000 by Panasonic, SanDisk and Toshiba in an effort to develop industry standards for storage devices that would ultimately be used with their product lines.

SD cards are generally used for the storage and transfer of digital images but these cards are able to also store audio, video and documents. You must ensure that the device accepting the data stored on the card is SD-Audio, SD-Video or SD-document ready when using these file formats.
