Moongate Awards return for hospitality’s shining stars

The Bermuda Hospitality Institute is looking for the best and brightest businesses in the industry for their second annual Moongate Awards.

BHI CEO Karla Lacey said: “These awards recognise and promote organisational excellence within the Hospitality industry. With the increased focus and interest on the industry, it’s important to highlight businesses doing great things for their employees and the community.”

The BHI will be handing out a total of 13 awards divided between three categories, including promoting careers, best employment practices and attracting and developing people.

These include awards for Best People Innovation Award, which was won by Fairmont Hamilton Princess last year, the Best Local Management Strategy, previously won by Fairmont Southampton, and the Best Student Placement Provider, which had been won by Butterfield and Vallis.

Another, the Education Pipeline Award is for organisations that most successfully demonstrate good links with schools, colleges or universities. That award was won by Dolphin Quest last year.

“The awards under the three categories are only given should a submission warrant the recognition,” Ms Lacey said. “Each requires an organisation to identify their particular issue or challenge, share their goals and quantify the successful outcome.”

Businesses eligible for the awards include guest accommodations, dining and food services, activities and entertainment, wholesale distribution, business support, tours and transportation.

Online submissions can be made between tomorrow and February 15 at www.bhi.bm, and winners will be announced in April as a part of Hospitality Month.
