Bermuda ranked highly in a coveted reader’s choice awards for leading tourism magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

The Bermuda Tourism Authority hailed the recognition, as number four out of 20 in the Islands of the Caribbean and Atlantic category, as a win for the island.

More than 240,000 readers of the magazine rated their travel experiences across the globe on the top places they enjoyed this year.

The BTA said the awards were the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry.

Tracy Berkeley, interim chief executive at the BTA, said the organisation was “thrilled” at the seal of approval.

“But this win is for everyone in Bermuda who has made Bermuda’s visitor experience memorable – from the hoteliers, shopkeepers, transportation providers, servers, and chefs to Bermuda’s friendly and engaging residents,” she said.

“We are encouraged by the recognition and confident that Bermuda’s tourism infrastructure, natural beauty, and unmatched hospitality will continue to captivate travellers to get lost yet found in the magic and mystery of Bermuda.”

Jamari Douglas, vice president of marketing, PR and communications, said the BTA was “delighted that Bermuda has been tapped as one of the top destinations in the region by the discerning readers of Condé Nast Traveler”.

“The timing couldn’t be better as we recently launched the Bermuda Lost Yet Found campaign highlighting the island’s unique cultural, sporting, and natural assets to travellers around the world.”

The awards will be highlighted in the November issue of the US magazine, which reports a circulation of 813,000.

St Barts in the Caribbean came top in the ranking, followed by Anguilla, with Turks and Caicos coming in third.
