Miles Outerbridge signs off from high school competition
Miles Outerbridge concluded his high school track and field career by competing at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Representing Montverde Academy for the last time before heading off to University of Houston in August, Outerbridge clocked 10.56sec to finish eleventh in the 100 metres.
The 18-year-old reached the final in the 200 metres, where his time of 21.09 placed him fifth in a race won by Zamarii Sanders, who completed the sprint double.
Outerbridge will be part of the Bermuda 4x100 relay team at the Barbados Grand Prix on July 4. He is also gearing up for his maiden appearance at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, taking place from 5-9 August.
Arima Turner, another Bermudian athlete leaving high school, teamed up with Adriana Rodriguez, Daquana Howell and Nakira Hudson to win a silver medal in the girls 4x200 relay. They finished second with a season’s best time of 1min 37.19sec.
Turner will be pursuing her track career at Cornell University. In Ithaca, New York, the Bermudian youngster will be under the guidance of Adrian Durant, a championship-winning NCAA Division I head coach.
